One way or another, winter weather is upon us, whether at our back door or on holiday travels.  And that's why we have bookended this month's newsletter with two weather related articles, one related to your home, the other your cars and driving.

Today, the distinction between home and work has been blurred.  Most of us carry work back and forth, and easy access to email, documents and information via laptop computers and smart phones make it all too easy to shift from personal to work pursuits.  And those devices also make our information - personal and business - a little more vulnerable to people with ill intent.  Many of us will be giving or receiving new tablet computers, smart phones or computers for Christmas so we think this a particularly good time to think about password security.

Cloud computing and inexpensive telecommunication options have also made it possible for record numbers of U.S. residents to engage in side businesses.  Depending upon the type of business you may engage in, you may have inventory in your home, or access to credit card information; you may find yourself using your family car for business use.  There are myriad implications -some benign and some serious - to liability and property loss.  There are almost always ways to transfer risk through insurance and those treatments are often inexpensive.  But, at a minimum, you should be aware of the risks your have taken on through your home business.
